Real-World Evidence: Primary Care and Disease State Management
Numerous studies assess pharmacist impact in the ambulatory care setting and the efficiency, access to care, and financial association of integrating a pharmacy into a primary care practice through a pharmacist-physician co-visit. A co-visit model with a pharmacist generated an additional estimated $158,291.04 annually compared to physician-only billing. The study found that the physician was able to see on average 1.3 additional patients per half-day with the co-visit model compared to separate visits. There was an increase in available appointments on average, 3.2 days versus 1.4 with separate visits.

Real-World Evidence
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Valuable Team Member
A qualitative study assessed providers’ attitudes in primary care with an on-site pharmacist in three primary care settings. The consistent trend found:
- Pharmacists are portrayed as highly valuable and effective on the team
- Efficient communication and effective patient care with direct access to a pharmacist
- An effective collaboration between providers and pharmacists needs trust
- Pharmacists demonstrate responsibility for patients and view themselves as stewards of patient care powers in collaboration with providers
- Dispensing requirements are believed to limit providers who utilize community pharmacists.

Clinical Outcomes
The value of a pharmacist integrated into practice is also displayed in a study that set out to assess the clinical outcomes of diabetic and hypertensive patients using a co-visit model for four months. An improvement in glycosylated hemoglobin (A1C) was found at 0.46% and systolic and diastolic blood pressure by 1.18. The average appointment per patient within the model was 1.77.
